About Objectify This
Hi! I’m a 22 year old college student constructing a blog about objectification of people in the media. I want to think about why women are characterized as objects while men are allowed to be subjects — is it the autohomophobia of the male gaze? Is it a fear or noncomprehension of female sexual desire?
These questions are important because the media and popular culture set the tone for the United States and serve as our only measure of what our country thinks is funny, or sexy, or too risque.
In this blog I will construct a virtual collage of examples of objectification in the media, and compare the way that different kinds of people are represented, with a focus on gender.
Hey 22 yr old college student! I wanted to send an email, but I guess this is the best I can do.
I’m a new reader and I enjoy the topics your presenting.
I wanted to introduce you to my artwork at http://www.gus23.com
Its interesting that objectification is associated with negativity. Oddly enough, my artwork explores the complete objectification of an individual–I’ve simply turned myself into a tool for my Art. I am just another medium like Paint or Photography.
Yesterday, I posted some thoughts on this idea on my blog, http://gus23.wordpress.com. You might find it interesting. Perhaps there can be positive outcomes from the objectification of an individual. And perhaps the objectification of people is simply an American tradition.
